Latoya Vanhook is the ‘Boss Lady’ of Beyond Beauty Salon and Training Center, Inc. in Burlington, North Carolina. The Burlington native and devout woman of God has definitely put forth a valiant effort to achieve her personal goals and fulfill her dreams. In the beginning, she set her sights on being the best cosmetologist in the industry. To achieve this, she had to develop a unique styling ability.

Vanhook started styling hair long before she enrolled in cosmetology school. She began in her kitchen, styling pony tails in the microwave, with the Pump It Up spray. Next she moved to Nina’s Hair Design and focused on braids and catered to a mostly male clientele. She then attended Alamance Community College and obtained her professional license before landing at Ayannas Hairport and soon transitioned to Ladies of Distinction in Graham. She would eventaully purchase that salon and Beyond Beauty was birthed, 11 years ago.

“My goal and assignment as a successful hairstylist is to inspire, encourage, and motivate other up and coming hair styling professionals,” she says. Through many years of trial and error while owning her own salon, Vanhook made many mistakes. She admits that she lost her focus and didn’t manage herself or her business appropriately. She even felt like throwing in the towels, literally and figuratively. “In order for someone to have a testimony, you must first be tested,” she says. Those experiences pushed her to seek a purpose driven life and she now exudes a contagious confidence amongst her clients and business partners at Beyond Beauty.

She now realizes that people come to Beyond Beauty not just their services, but also for an experience. “When I come to work I just don’t see it as a job, but as an opportunity to touch someones life,” she explains. That is the core principle behind Beyond Beauty and something that her clients have became accustomed to.

Vanhook has envisioned the footprint of Beyond Beauty Salon & Training Center, Inc. will reach more locations. The duplicate locations will be successful by default because according to Vanhook, her blueprint is fool proof. They have recently incorporated Sacha Cosmetics, an official line that originated in Trinidad and Tabago and was used exclusively for the Miss America and Miss USA Peagant. At an early age the path of destruction Clay created for herself was overwhelming and obstacles were forthcoming.
