Brandy Dolby

There are many words that can be used to describe her. She’s a friend, a sister, daughter, encourager, motivator, listener, advocate, supporter, teacher and writer. Most importantly, Brandy Dolby says she is a willing vessel and young lady that has allowed God to use her for His greater purpose.
She is a native of Raleigh, N.C., and holds a bachelors degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice, and also a masters degree in Public Administration and Education. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Her favorite quote is “A woman’s heart should be so hidden in Christ that a man should have to seek Him first to find her”.

Dolby wrote her first book in 2012 and it was published in 2013. She had no desire or interest in writing a book, but God saw differently. Through various mechanisms, she says God continued to bring to her attention His desire for her to write and share her story with others. “I was afraid to tell my story because telling it made me transparent and displayed by vulnerabilities. Placing my fears aside and being obedient to what God instructed me to do has been one of the biggest blessing of my life,” she say. What started as an experience turned into her testimony, which later turned into a book.

Her first book “I’m Waiting on God” details Dolby’s testimony and how a disappointing event turned into a blessing and deeper relationship with God. “I am just an ordinary girl that God decided to use for a bigger purpose. Although I felt like I was the only one going through such a hurting and disappointing situation, It was not my time and God was right there carving out the path of my journey. It was just up to me to take the path to where he was leading me,” she declares.

Dolby is inspired by life. Things haven’t always been easy for her, and she has dealt with as many rough moments as she has good ones. There were times of which she complained and compared herself to meaningless things, instead of embracing the good of her own life. “I was very unhappy at one time in my life, but I thank God for his grace and mercy because I can now truly say I embrace life,” she says. I don’t worry about where I am or where I am not in life, but all that matters is that I am right where God intends for me to be for the moment.”

Family and friends have played a huge part of who Dolby is and who she strives to be. Though they may not realize it, she says each of have all inspired her in countless ways. “I appreciate all the love, encouragement and support they are always providing. I truly value family and friendships and don’t take any of them for granted, no matter if the relationship is for a reason, season or a lifetime,” she says. “I have met people that I have only had the opportunity to interact with one time, but that one time was all I needed to take something away for the interaction that will help inspire and impact me for the remainder of my life.”

As fearful as it was in the beginning to be able to share with others, Dolby understands that through her experiences, she will be able to help others. Writing allows her to be open and resilient. She plans to continue to be obedient to Gods plan and will, and believes that He has instructed her to write more books. She recently completed her second book titled “I’m Just Brandy (Blessed) Dolby” and hopes to have it released in the fall of 2016. “God is leading me in a direction of writing that I am not too sure about, but I am still excited to take the journey,” says Dolby. She also has a desire to use her books as a platform to travel and motivationally speak to young girls and women on a local, national and even global level. Her message is focused on keeping God first. “If you do just that, everything else will fall into place,” she says.
