Brunson-Invitational-LogoThe Brunson Invitational Golf Scholarship Fund was founded in 2000 by Rodney Brunson. The fund was created when Brunson witnessed the financial challenges college students face due to lack of resources and scholarship opportunities. He and other avid golf payers, who love the game decided to be the change they wanted to see in today’s world.

The Brunson Invitational Golf Scholarship Fund’s mission is to positively impact the lives of inner-city youth through golf instruction, training and exposure. These enriching opportunities will help support youth thirst for knowledge and their desire to make a difference in the world.

Typically, there are four events in three days, starting with the annual youth golf clinic that brings out an average of 15-20 children from ages seven to 16. There are two to three golf instructors that offer golf instruction for about an hour. The instructors go over putting, chipping and full swing. The kids receive a gift bag and dinner that is provided by event sponsors. In addition, there is a “meet and greet” social that is open for alumni and golfers.
“As former athletes and students, we understood the challenges these students go through. We have also inspired other golf peers and classmates to have a golf tournament during North Carolina A&T State University’s Homecoming weekend. The golf event has existed since 2000; however we initially started giving away scholarships in 2007. And every year since 2007, we have expanded that weekend to more events and activities that have benefited not only scholarships but exposing the game to our youth,” says Brunson.

The Brunson Invitational Scholarship Fund is also a registered nonprofit organization that exposes inner city youth to the game of golf. College students that apply to this scholarship must meet academic guidelines and attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
Rodney Brunson, founder and executive director graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1990. He is a former student and athlete (football player from 1986-1990). In addition, he has been playing golf since 1996. For more information, please call 336-457-2372 for details about the program and how to support the scholarship fund.
