In 2007, Mykel Media Company released the first issue of Huami Magazine in Greensboro, N.C., under the leadership of Terry Watson.  Having no experience in the profession of publishing, he utilized all available resources to gain insight on how to publish a magazine including graphic design experts, printing professionals, and photographers.  Since then, Huami Magazine’s footprint has expanded to 8 cities of N.C. and is considered to be one of the premier African American focused publication in the state.

Terry has engaged himself in several community based organizations to gain a better perception of the needs of small business owners in terms of marketing and promotion.  He remains committed to providing these services at affordable rates while striving to give clients the best possible services.  Currently residing in Greensboro, he devotes most of his time to his family and serving God.

Alana Allen – Deputy Editor and Women’s Interest editor for Huami Magazine

Alana Allen is a public relations professional and graduate from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communications with a concentration in Public Relations

Alana specializes in writing, social media, PR campaigns, event planning, media relations, and media tours. Through her media relations efforts she has secured media hits in Black Enterprise, the Greensboro News and Record, Raleigh News & Observer,  High Point Enterprise,  Durham Herald Sun, and  the Detroit Free Press.   During her spare time she is the media relations cooridnator and internship coordinator for Reasons 2 Rhyme, manages a women’s empowerment blog, and Deputy Editor and Women’s Interest Editor for HUAMI Magazine .  Also, she is the Founder of a women’s empowerment non-profit I Am A Queen.

Alana has worked with clients who specialize in entrepreneurship, financial empowerment, entertainment, and the non-profit sector.

Crystal Kelly, originally from Hartford, CT, has recently relocated to Charlotte, NC. She is a graduate of Norfolk State University (NSU) in Norfolk, VA. There she started writing for the college newspaper, Spartan News. She also produced the morning news for the schools’ radio station, WNSB.

While attending NSU Crystal was the student representative for the American Red Cross, hosted fundraising walks and awareness campaigns for Sickle Cell, and created Face-2-Face mentoring group for junior and high school seniors. At church, she served as the president of the youth department where she encouraged the youth about the power of writing and speaking formally in front of people.

Today, she is developing an empowerment group for young girls ages 10 – 15 years old. This group will focus on self development and the essence of being a young lady. Crystal is a proud mom and is currently completing her Masters degree at the University of New Haven.

A native of Martinsville, VA, Tonya Dixon is a freelance journalist and author. The North Carolina A&T  grad has ghost written several articles and is currently collaborating with a pastor on a  book as well as penning her first novel. The self-proclaimed “people watcher” believes great, dramatic, feel-good, stories can be found in our “everyday lives if we simply take the time to pay attention.” Tonya is most proud and humbled by the fact that she is loved and saved by the most high God and King, Jesus Christ, who graciously sent her loving husband, Courtney Dixon and blessed their bond with two precious children.

I enjoy taking pictures and I also enjoy teaching technology, health and lifetime to fitness on the college level.  I have been teaching for ten years and have been owner of TMFPHOTOGRAPY for five years.  I am also founder of “Dance in Action”, an after school dance program for kids.  Other than that, I develop websites and spend time writing grants for underserved youth.
