Getting Fit in 2013

Exercise relieves so much stress, not just for the body but the mind and soul as well. The more active a person is the better they feel about their selves. Exercise can help people maintain a healthy weight and live a better life. Some of the great health benefits of exercising helps with delaying or preventing diabetes, some cancers and heart problems.

Two years ago, Motley was almost 100 lbs. heavier and started out with zumba and fell in love with it. Zumba is a Latin inspired dance fitness program that everyone can do that keeps the body moving. “With zumba, you are dancing and everyone is trying to get the steps so it makes it a comfortable environment because nobody has time to watch you”, says Motley. “They are focusing on their steps and trying to get their work out on.”

Most people think when they hear “exercise” they have to automatically run and join a gym or spend money that they may or may not have. However, working out does not require people to spend too much money. For examples, people can start walking in their neighborhoods, dancing, swimming for recreation or bicycling. In addition, stretching exercises such as yoga and weight training can also strengthen the body and improve one’s fitness level and immune system.

The key is to find the right exercise program that is fun and also rewarding to keep a person motivated for their goals. Most trainers suggest working out with a friend or group to help maintain commitment. In addition, if someone has been inactive for a while, they can use a sensible approach and start off slowly—walking, swimming or zumba are just a few great ways to start moving.
