Shaunielle “Shaun” Foster is a hard-working woman with an amazing work ethic to impact the Greensboro community in a positive way. She is the chief executive officer of Footsteps to Follow, Foster Administrative Services, and the founder of Ladies of the Triad. She currently holds the title of “Ms. Black Greensboro USA 2012” and will compete in the Mr./Ms./Mrs./ Black North Carolina Competition on Saturday, March 24 at St. Augustine College in Raleigh. Her platform is focused on children and community service.

Here is her story…
Shaun Foster started Footsteps to Follow, a non-profit organization in early 2011 that creates a safe haven for children and allows them to have a positive outlet. The organization has a focus on children between the ages of 2-18 with illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, sickle cell anemia and HIV/AIDS.

Footsteps to Follow has impacted the community by engaging youth by giving out balloons in the pediatric unit at Moses Cone Hospital, supporting fundraising events, hosting canned food and clothing drives for tornado victims of 2011 and a back to school drive.
Foster has always been inspired by the children she meets in the community. She is constantly seeing the need for guidance and self-esteem building. “If I can help one, I can help them all—helping one child at a time”, says Shaun Foster.

Throughout this journey of supporting so many positive initiatives that impact children, Foster has encountered some challenges like most non-profit organizations. Some of the challenges faced are funding for the nonprofit initiatives and transportation to take children from one location to another. However through strong perseverance, she has overcome challenges through faith and by her strong support system. In the future, she hopes to establish a headquarter setup for mentoring programs, recreational events, and for children to do homework. She is also looking into having a medical staff for children in the program with illnesses.

Footsteps to Follow upcoming events are “Get Fit with Footsteps”, that will help battle childhood obesity in March, “Spring Ahead Fashion Show”, that will support a community cause in April, and “Teen Fest”, that will educate youth on etiquette and self-esteem in June. People can get involved with this organization by becoming a sponsor of an event, volunteering time, increasing awareness about donations and supporting the events in attendance.
